I couldn’t agree more. I really appreciate you sharing this piece of advice. Everytime I’ve felt my ideas dry up, or feel low on inspiration, this is, more often than not, the source of the problem.

Also, you’re spot on about reading a variety of things and consuming a wide range of material. Gotta feed your mind, and stretch yourself to learn and grow.

I’d also suggest keeping a journal of some kind. Doesn’t have to be fancy, formal, or traditional. Just somewhere to jot down those ideas, the little lessons from the reading and writing and such.

Dr. Sönke Ahrens (of Smart Notes fame) calls this sort of thing, “thinking externally” or even better, “thinking through writing.”

That’s what we’re really doing. Thinking beyond the mind alone, and trying like hell to keep up.
