Ryan,

Thanks for this distinction. I hadn’t ever really stopped to think about it before, but many of the things I call my morning routine may actually be my morning practice. They are my essential things.

  • Meditating
  • Writing in my journal and planning for the day ahead
  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Reading and Writing poetry

I suppose when it comes down to it, the green tea is optional, hell, even the hot shower first thing in the morning is optional but these items on this list? They’re my firm foundation.

Great points made. Also, a side note, I really enjoy how you approach your writing as the same regardless of the medium. Your voice really carries through all your written work. The blog posts don’t feel or sound different from your approach to writing a book.
