Sunshine and 60-Degree Weather

Sunshine and 60-degree weather
carved an opportunity for a walk
just a little way up the road, greeting the creek, surveying the changes
listening to rocks fall from the rain-loosened ground and roll into the creek

Sunshine became inspiration enough to escape outside
to follow the road for a while, soaking up the warmth
listening to the creek sing its song
seeing what the recent floods had changed

Same road, same little holler, but spring teased the cold air and promised seasons change
soon the otters would be out, the hummingbirds back, the world a warmer place
but first, we had to see what had changed already
floodwaters tossing rocks, throwing half-trees against the bridge

Soon, the world would roll into spring and find warmer days
we walked just a little way up the road, greeting the creek, surveying the changes
floodwaters had signed its name in a tumble of rocks and tree branches piled against the bridge
on a day filled with sunshine and 60-degree weather
