We visited the Emus today
their wild wispy feathers
their curious and kind eyes
their little chirp-chirps songs

They have a thin crown of feathers
sitting comically atop their heads
they sing hello with curiosity
as we approach

They’re proud with their necks raised
their small wings tucked
their happiness obvious as we walk up
I smile too

They like to put their wings out when they run
their eyes focused on the game
they look to see me watching, I smile as I do
we visited the Emus today
